Priority Health Tour de Leelanau

Feed Zones

Feed ZonesRacing for 109 and 69 miles, respectively, the men and women racing in the Priority Health Tour de Leelanau will burn up 3,000 to 4,000 calories and 10 liters of fluids during the four plus hours of racing. In order to keep their fluid levels topped off and blood sugars at optimum levels each athlete will eat and drink approximately every ten to fifteen minutes while they're on the road.

Cycling jerseys have three pockets on the back to hold all of the food items a rider may need through the race and their bikes are fitted to carry two water bottles at a time. Yet, the riders will still need to replenish their supply of goodies along the way so there are two feed zones for the men and women of the Tour de Leelanau. Teams with team cars in the race caravan may also hand-up food and liquids to their riders as the race rolls through the County.

The feed zones are located on M-22 just north of Empire (men only), Lakeshore Rd & Rice Rd (women only) and St Wenceslaus (men and women). The feed zones are a great place to watch some of the action of the races but they are also a place for the teams to conduct their business so spectators please respect the boundaries of the feed zones and give the teams the space they need to feed their athletes safely.

(Team credentials will be needed for access into the feed zone boundaries).
